Part Three: What Do We Mean When We Say Transparency?
When we talk about transparency, what we’re really talking about is trust.
Do you agree? We'd be interested to hear what you think
Personally, We think trust and transparency go hand-in-hand.
Being transparent with your data leads to trust… And at the same time…
Having trust in your data, leads to greater transparency. It’s interesting to remember that many of the data tools we use today – Azure Synapse, Databricks, Fabric, Azure Data Lake, Power BI, etc. - really grew out of the need for greater regulation of data.
They were essentially born as a compliance function. The idea was that if you can better manage your data you can make it more transparent.
In turn, more effective data management reassures customers they can trust their data is being used appropriately. Of course, data management has come a long way since then too.
Businesses soon realised ...
... the potential of their data and how it could help make processes more efficient, help generate more sales and improve customer experience.
In many ways, businesses have come to understand that having a data-first agenda means they can trust it too. Before such focus, a business might hold customer details that are attached to various different accounts across numerous different departments.
Such displacement makes it impossible to be 100% confident in the data. And in turn, it means you can’t truly understand your customers or properly manage your products and services. It’s why, in recent years, we’ve seen a huge increase in the number of firms embracing data management and approaching companies like us to help them.
In fact, figures reported by research group Gartner suggest the between 2024-2030 the data quality tooling market is projected to grow around 18.5%. This is huge given the market is valued at $2.1 billion.
But as we move into 2025 and beyond, I expect to see the adoption of better information management systems and practices increase further. In fact, I expect customers – or at least the general sentiment of the market – to force businesses to actively improve their data processes.
I mean, it’s no secret that the demand for greater transparency and trust where data is concerned is increasing all the time.
And even then… I think it’s happening at the same time businesses are seeking to adopt more and more data-driven technologies too. An area Microsoft excels in.
As businesses look to incorporate artificial intelligence and machine learning into their processes, the need for transparent data that you can trust to be accurate will become even more essential.
It’s why when it comes to thinking about data in the next decade, I’d recommend keeping trust and transparency at the forefront of your mind.
And don’t forget…
Here at HSO, our aim is simple:
To help businesses more value from their investments in Microsoft technology.
